Supreme Court – The matter of B (A Child)

A number of members of 4PB appeared before the UK Supreme Court this week in the matter of B (A Child). The case was the first to come before the Supreme Court concerning the rights of a non-biological mother of a child conceived by IUI and the proper approach to determination of the English court’s jurisdiction to make orders in relation to such a child.

David, Alistair and Michael, who were instructed by Freemans Solicitors, acted pro bono, as did all of the other lawyers that appeared before the court. Other members of chambers represented certain of the intervening organisations. Henry Setright QC, Hassan Khan and Dorothea Gartland represented the International Centre for Family Law, Practice and Policy and Michael Edwards represented the AIRE centre.
