Profile

Katharine practised in Middle Temple for the early years of her career at the Bar before moving to live and work in East Anglia over 15 years ago.

Katharine takes on heavyweight financial remedy work involving various company structures, trusts, jurisdiction conflicts and foreign issues.

Her initial grounding in London in real property and general civil work equips her for the Trusts of Land matters.

She has been undertaking children work for over 20 years, and has a wide experience of issues surrounding alienation, high conflict cases, domestic abuse and same sex relationships.

Katharine undertakes instruction from solicitors from far and wide and is willing to travel.

Katharine undertakes Direct Access work for members of the public who do not have a solicitor. She can receive documents electronically and arrange conferences through Skype, FaceTime or Zoom.

Katharine can undertake and advise on creative solutions to your case such as round table conferences, representation at mediation or binding family arbitration.

Katharine lectures and provides seminars for many local solicitors and other groups on forthcoming legal changes and legal updates; she is involved with the University of East Anglia and University of Cambridge judging moots, mentoring and supporting undergraduate students.

In June 2021 Katharine chaired a virtual conference on Private Children Law for MBL – the leading learning & development provider for professional law services firms.

In March 2022 Katharine spoke at a seminar in London on ‘Financial Remedy Update – Ancillary Relief, Capital Pensions & Periodical Payments’. 

In September 2022 Katharine Bundell chaired this year’s Private Children Law Virtual Conference, joined by Christopher Miller, Sarah Lucy Cooper and Stuart Barlow. These leading experts discussed the major issues of 2022, which all legal professionals who work in private children law need to keep abreast of.

In March 2023 Katharine will be presenting two parts in a 6-part webinar on Matrimonial Finance. The first module is Capital Division and Marital Acquest which is an update on capital division and where we are on marital acquest, with particular reference to WX v HX (Treatment of Matrimonial and Non-Matrimonial Property) and WC v HC [2022]. The second module is entitled Give Me My Share which is an update on various recent cases affecting shareholdings and the issues that can arise with this singular asset in financial remedy cases. Publications

Katharine has published a book called “A Practical Guide to Financial Provision for Children under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989.” This is a practical guide for family practitioners comfortable with financial remedy work.This book takes you through the procedural steps of running or defending such an application, from the form filling and pleadings to evidence gathering and framing a final order. It sets out the legal context in detail and highlights supporting case law, both totem cases and recent cases, big money and modest asset and debt cases. Buy the book here.
