Mediation is very often the first port of call for those who find themselves in a dispute concerning their family and is now something the court will expect you to attempt before issuing proceedings. It is available in most children and finance cases, and each participant will have their own initial meeting with the 4PB mediator to ensure the process is right for them.

Mediation is a private and confidential process which enables open dialogue between participants without the worry that anything said may later be used against them in court.  It is a structured process which leads to success because the sole focus of the mediator is to facilitate the discussions which assist participants to reach settlement terms within the parameters of the law.

Our trained mediators at 4PB are all experts in family disputes.  We recognise that no two disputes are the same, so we flexibly arrange the mediation process to meet the specific needs of each family.  Mediation can take place in person at our offices near St Paul’s, or any other suitable venue convenient to the parties, on dates and at times that work for everyone. It can take place with everyone in the same room; or so with the participants remaining in separate rooms and the mediator “shuttling” between them. If everyone agrees, the process can also be supported by each party having their lawyers present.

Although the contents of mediation discussions cannot be referred to in court, the agreements reached can be, and those agreements can even be converted into court orders if everyone agrees.
