Private Financial Dispute Resolution appointments in finance cases (“pFDRs”) and both children and finance cases allow parties to settle their cases with the assistance of experienced specialist barristers appointed jointly, by both parties, to give an informal, objective indication as to the likely outcome of a case and guide the parties to settlement.
For most parties, who will be represented by their own lawyers throughout, this means their litigation can end consensually on terms both parties wish to accept. The saving in legal costs is just one benefit of this process: the very act of agreement is a tremendous benefit for separating parties, saving them both time and stress, whether the subject matter is children or finances.
4PB has market-leading expertise in both money and children work and our large team of barristers – which includes very experienced part-time judges – means there will always be an appropriate option whatever the issues and whatever level of seniority is required.
A private FDR takes place at a time of your choosing, in comfortable surroundings and with your appointed barrister’s undivided attention. They have the advantages and structure of a court hearing, but with the collaborative atmosphere of a mediation. Settlement rates are much higher than following a court-based FDR. They can be held at any stage of the proceedings, including pre-proceedings, which can result in litigation being avoided altogether.
