The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 s.54(1) and s.54(2) were incompatible with the rights of a father and his child under ECHR art.14 taken with art.8 insofar as they prevented the father from obtaining a parental order on the sole ground of his status as a single person as opposed to being part of a couple.
