ONS Divorce Statistics Released – Samantha Woodham comments in the Law Society Gazette

The new ONS statistics on divorce released today, show 105,961 legal partnership dissolutions in England and Wales in 2025, including 105,002 divorces and 959 civil partnership dissolutions.

While divorce numbers remain broadly stable compared with 2023 and 2024, they are still significantly lower than the peak years of the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, when annual divorces regularly reached around 150,000. The data suggests that although fewer couples are divorcing than in previous decades, the financial issues arising from separation can be increasingly complex, particularly as marriages are lasting longer before they end.
