Public Law

We are experts in handling public law family proceedings, acting with distinction as one of the largest, multi-award winning, family law chambers in England and Wales - 4PB has the greatest number of recognised public law specialists providing provide barristers at every level with relevant experience for any case.

We represent all parties in public law proceedings including local authorities, and government bodies, such as CAFCASS, the Official Solicitor, and the Attorney General, and are experienced in working with other professionals in this challenging but vital area.

Our barristers also represent individual parties in public law proceedings including parents and children. That includes adopters, foster parents and other family members or interested parties as interveners.

We deal with cases sensitively and professionally, with particular expertise in care proceedings, including cases involving contact in care, as well as those featuring secure accommodation.

We can deal with short-notice applications for emergency relief and injunctions, and protect the rights of those concerned, with appropriate orders on the grounds of Public Interest Immunity, and in restricting public disclosure of certain facts.

Members of chambers are also expert on cases involving human rights generally, including Human Rights Act and ECHR matters.

We deal regularly with cases involving domestic and international adoptions, both for local authorities, parents, prospective adopters, and others, and consider this one of our strengths.

We also have expertise in urgent cases requiring injunctions, the wardship of children, or involving the inherent jurisdiction of the courts. We have also been instructed on ‘forced marriage’ cases.
