03.07.2009 Dorothea Gartland wins the ALC Outstanding Newcomer in the field of Child Law Hershman Award 2009
Chambers are delighted to annouce that Dorothea Gartland has won the Association of Lawyers for Children 2009 award for 'Outstanding Newcomer in the Field of Child Law'. 
 
The award in memory of David Hershman QC is to recognise the contributions of newcomers to the field of child law and encourange them to continue to play an active role in shaping the future.
 
Dorothea received the award at the Hershman/Levy Memorial Lecuture at the Inner Temple on Thursday 2nd July.

19.03.2008 Judgement given on court of appeal case on sharia law
Alex Verdan QC represented the City of Westminster in the recent Court of Appeal case (which has been much reported in the media) considering the issue of whether a telephonic marriage between a vulnerable male adult in England, lacking the capacity to marry in England, and a woman in Bangladesh, which marriage was valid under sharia and Bangladeshi civil law, was valid in the UK. The High Court held that the purported marriage was repugnant to English public policy and so not valid.
09.02.2008 Queens Counsel Announcement
We are delighted to announce that Michael Sternberg of these chambers has been recommended by the Independent Selection Panel to be appointed a Queen’s Counsel. The ceremony is likely to be in March 2008.

05.12.2007 House of Lords deliver judgement in RE M
The House of Lords in a wide ranging judgment has confirmed that in Article 12 settlement cases the court retains a discretion to return children even where they are found to be settled.
26.11.2007 Marcus Scott-Manderson QC and David Williams House of Lords appeal.
Marcus Scott-Manderson QC and David Williams represent the Respondent in child abduction appeal. The appeal covers a wide range of issues including whether the court retains a discretion if settlement is established, the test for exercising the discretion and Article 13b. Judgment will be delivered on Wednesday 5th of December.
