When ordering maintenance payments following divorce in a case where the husband’s income comprised both a salary and a substantial bonus, the proper approach was to make an order which met the wife’s basic needs out of the salary and then to use a percentage of the bonus to “top up” that figure. However, it was necessary to set a cap upon the total amount payable from the bonus to avoid the wife receiving substantially more than was appropriate.
